- 출생 전 태아에게 난 치아를 탄생치라 한다.
- 갓 태어난 신생아들의 3천 명 중 1명에게 탄생치가 있을 수 있다.
- 드물게 생후 1 개월에 첫 치아가 나는 경우도 있다. 이런 치아를 조발치라고 한다.
- 이와 같이 비정상적으로 조기에 나는 신생아 탄생치나 신생아 조발치는 아래 잇몸에 더 흔히 난다.
- 탄생치를 빼지 않고 그대로 두면 혀를 다칠 수 있고 젖을 빨아 먹을 때 다소 지장이 생길 수 있다.
- 탄생치가 갑자기 빠져 기도 속으로 흡인될 수 있다.
- 치아 X-선 사진 검사로 탄생치가 영구치인가 확인한 다음 영구치가 아니고 가외로 난 과잉치(過剩齒)면 치과에서 발치하는 것이 좋다.

• Teeth born to the fetus before birth are called birth teeth.
• 1 in 3,000 newborns may have a birth tooth.
• Rarely, the first teeth appear at 1 month of age. These teeth are called premature teeth.
• These abnormally premature birth teeth or premature extraction teeth are more common in the lower gums.
• If left unchecked, it may injure the tongue and may interfere with sucking.
• Birth teeth may be suddenly removed and aspirated into the airways.
• After confirming that the birth tooth is a permanent tooth by X-ray examination of the tooth, if it is not a permanent tooth but is an extra tooth, it is better to have it extracted at the dentist.
